    What is ME?

I supppose the best way to start this blog is to answer the question - What is M.E.?

M.E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, as it is otherwise known, currently affects up to 250,000 people in the UK. It is a debilitating condition which affects the nervous and immune systems and often leaves the sufferer with immense fatigue, joint and muscle pains, lack of memory and concentration and a general tendency to 'catch' whatever viruses are doing the rounds.

There is no known cure and some medical practitioners still refuse to recognise it as a real illness. Those of you who have M.E. or who care for people with the condition will know how frustrating this can be.

That said, let us not get bogged (or blogged) down in doom and gloom.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel, there is hope, you can feel better and I hope this blog will provide you with the advice, information and inspiration to make the most out of your life.

I have suffered from M.E. for eleven years and I still fight it every day. I have come across various therapies, medication and support on my journey to better health but I believe none of it will work unless you truly believe that:

    a) you can beat this
    b) you want to get better

    and

    c) there is something more important in your world than M.E. itself

It can be done and I will show you how.

And so, let the journey begin...

  • I don't want to sound patronising and almost didn't leave a comment **but** you really are doing a great job by heightening the profile/understanding of ME.

My cousin's wife is a former sufferer.

  • Well thanks! That was my aim in setting up this blog, it's been something I've been meaning to do for years. I just hope that my experience and knowledge can help other sufferers to get to the same state of 'wellness ' that I have reached in recent years and know that things will change if you remain positive :)

There are some books and doctors that believe the condition can be improved tremendously. When I felt able, I have read everything I can get my hands on about the disease. I am currently trying to work with the medical establishment whis is very frustrating.
